Georg Philipp Telemann

Born: 1681 - Died: 1767

Listen to some of Telemann's music. Does it sound similar or different from the music of J.S. Bach?

Concerto For Oboe in D minor

Trio Sonata For Recorder and Violin

Concerto for Trumpet in D major, Adagio

More Practice with Whole and Half Steps

Try to figure out whether the following notes are a whole or half step apart. Check your answers. Play each note and see if there is a key (black or white) in between the two notes. If there is then they are a whole step apart. If they are right next to each other, then they are only a half step apart.

Baroque Concertos

Baroque composers wrote concertos for many different instruments. Listen to these concertos that have some interesting combinations of instruments..

G. P. Telemann, Concerto for Alto Recorder and Bassoon - Listen as the orchestra begins the music. Can you hear where the deep bassoon enters? Then soon the higher, lighter recorder begins playing. The two instruments have very different sounds.

G. P Telemann, Concerto for Three French horns and violin - The solo violin comes in about 40 seconds into the piece.

A. Vivaldi, Concerto for Two Mandolins - a mandolin is a plucked string instrument that is a bit like a guitar and was popular in the 1600s and 1700s.
