Composer of the Month

George Frideric Handel

Music for Royal Fireworks - on old instruments.

Messiah, Hallelujah Chorus

Baroque Music

Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3 (strings with harpsichord)

Vivaldi's "Winter" from The Four Seasons

D. Scarlatti, Sonata K. 450 in G minor

Telemann Suite in D major - with viola da gamba and other Baroque instruments, modern string instruments, and harpsichord.

Corelli, Concerti grossi, Op. 6 No. 4, in D major.

The Piano

Harpsichord vs. the fortepiano - listen to two pieces played on each instrument. What sounds different on each one? Which do you like better? (The music switches to piano around 3:40, then to harpsichord again at 7:13 and then back to piano at 11:45)

The Clavichord - supposedly Handel learned to play the clavichord in secret after his family was asleep. The clavichord was a popular keyboard instrument in the Baroque period. Notice how quiet the sound is – so young Handel could play without waking everyone up!
