The Woody Herman Jazz Award was created in 1988, shortly after Herman’s death, to honor outstanding jazz students. The beautiful wooden Herman Wall Plaque (left, 101⁄2" x 13") displays the names of the winners in the band room.
Middle schools use the award to honor their top jazz players, while high schools offer it as a runner-up for the Armstrong Award.
